Andre D. Wagner (b. 1986, Omaha, Nebraska) is a photographer living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Through photography, he explores the poetic and lyrical nuances of daily life, creating images rooted in presence, observation, and the ongoing encounter between people, place, and time.

In 2011, Wagner moved to New York City to pursue a master’s degree in social work. Shortly after arriving, the city transformed the course of his life. Photography, once a hobby, became a daily practice and a way of navigating the intensity, beauty, and complexity of the city.

At the center of Wagner’s practice is an expansive photographic archive built over more than fifteen years, through which he continues to explore the relationship between memory, place, and human connection. Through editing, sequencing, and bookmaking, he explores how photographs change when placed in relationship to one another.

Committed to the material processes of photography, Wagner develops his own black-and-white negatives and produces silver gelatin prints in his darkroom.

His first monograph, Here for the Ride, was published in 2017. His second monograph, New City, Old Blues, published in 2026 by Steidl and The Gordon Parks Foundation, brings together photographs made between 2014 and 2024 and includes an essay by Hanif Abdurraqib.

His photographs have been commissioned by The New York Times, Esquire, W Magazine, Essence, Vogue, and other publications. He has also created key art and promotional photography for films including Queen & Slim, Till, Respect, and The Greatest.
